NCHA Trainer and Rider Grant Setnicka to Compete at the Run For a Million in Las Vegas

Owner of Grant Setnicka Cutting Horses will compete at the Run For a Million on his own horse, Princesses Rule.

Grant Setnicka, a world renowned trainer and rider in the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) will be competing at the Run For a Million in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend.

Setnicka has been in the business for 14 years and has earned $4.4 million in the NCHA and while it does seem like he is superman, he credits a lot of his success to his team around him.

“You know the old cliche, ‘there’s no I in team’. And we’re kind of running four or five different businesses all under one roof so to speak. If you don’t have the people like that in your program, it’s really hard to stay competitive,” Setnicka said.

Unlike events such as the Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth where a rider is on several different horses, several different times, at the Run For a Million it is one run on one horse .

“I think you have a lot more time to overthink things. Because, you know it’s one run, one horse. And, first place is $50,000 and go down from there. So, it’s a really cool set up if everything works out. To me, it’s one of those deals, any one of those horses can win it. Everybody brought their best stuff, and so it should be one heck of a cutting to watch,” Setnicka said.

He will be competing on a horse that he started as a two-year-old, Princesses Rule.

“We know each other through and through, and it really helps when you come to these deals... a completely different environment. It is so cool. It’s more like, there’s all kinds of different disciplines here. It’s not like the typical show she goes to. And, having a horse like her that I know and trust, she doesn’t get too bothered by everything. So, really, it’s honestly kind of fun bringing one horse to the show and I can kind of be a tourist and walk around and see some people from other disciplines i haven’t seen in a really long time. It’s... it’s awesome,” he said.
