Nelson Wyatt on his busy, successful weekend in Guymon and Helotes

Nelson Wyatt is not just a 2020 NFR qualifier in the team roping, the Alabama cowboy is also an all-around talent.

This past weekend, he won Guymon on the head side with his partner Levi Lord to earn more than $6,000 and jump to No. 17 in the world standings. They were 21.7 on three in the Aggregate.

He said being aggressive while roping the muleys helped the team break a dry spell.

“We had a good first muley, just kind of waited on me and let me catch up and when I squared him off, Levi heeled him pretty fast,” Wyatt said of the pair’s 6.3-second run in Round 1, which tied for the Go-Round win.

Wyatt’s success continued when he went to Helotes, Texas, where he won the all-around and the tie-down roping. His 9.4-second run earned him $1,840.

“Got to get on a good horse, Jake Pratt’s horse, he let me on and had a really nice calf and was lucky enough to win something,” he said.
