NFR Tie-Down Roper Beau Cooper Talks Rodeo Success and Goals

The Canadian cowboy is one of the brightest young stars in tie-down roping following a Top 15 finish in 2023

Beau Cooper is a 22-year-old tie-down roper that hails from Alberta, Canada.

A few years ago, after some early success as an amateur, Cooper made the choice to travel to Texas to hone in on his skills. It has resulted in a Rookie of the Year title, two Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifications and a National Finals Rodeo qualification within the first three years of his career.

“Shane Hanchey was probably the biggest influence to get me to where I am today. He’s been a huge blessing for me and we’re like brothers now. It’s pretty cool to have somebody that believes in you that much that they put time and effort into seeing you succeed,” Cooper said. “I got around the good guys and people who can help me level up my game, luckily that was the right move.”

Cooper has already picked up bucket list rodeo wins including the Calgary Stampede, and two of the other biggest rodeos in his home country, doing so on a horse he bought from Hanchey.

Those three wins are part of what helped Cooper break the streak and be the first Canadian tie-down roper in 26 years to rope at the Thomas & Mack. He is also the first Canadian Tie-Down Roping Rookie of the Year in PRCA history.

Cooper’s fire is lit and his goals are mapped out as he continues down the rodeo road this 2024 season.
