Nicole Baggarley’s Rise at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

Nicole Baggarley speaks on her success in San Antonio as well as the positive shifts she’s witnessing in the sport of breakaway roping

The breakaway roping at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has brought the fastest event in rodeo to the Frost Bank Center and this year, the cowgirls are competing for equal money, meaning they can earn the same amount of money as every other event. This will make a significant difference in the World Standings and is a testament to how far breakaway roping as come in professional rodeo.

One athlete in particular has benefited from this as New Mexico cowgirl Nicole Baggarley was consistent in Bracket 2 of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, claiming the No. 1 position in the qualifiers with $5,250 in total earnings.

“I’ve really been working on that fast shot just knowing that these winter rodeos were going to be such fast starts and I was going to have to be quick,” Baggarely said.

Baggarley and her equine partner Jojo continue to capitalize on their advantages as a team, sending them to the top of the leader board at multiple rodeos this season.

As an All-Around cowgirl, Baggarley is adjusting to being a single event athlete as she previously competed in the team roping, goat tying and breakaway roping.

“I needed to put more time and effort into the horses that I had coming up for the breakaway just because the horsepower in our event is so important and so I didn’t really have time to put as much effort into the team roping as I would have liked.”

Baggarley has personally witnessed the positive transformations occurring in the world of breakaway roping and is taking advantage of the opportunities as she returns to the Frost Bank Center to compete for a spot in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Finals.
