It is tough to be more accomplished than bareback rider Keenan Hayes before the end of your rookie season.
The 20-year-old Colorado native set a record last year by winning more than $100,000 on his permit and his followed it up by winning the likes of Rodeo Austin and the San Angelo Cinch Chute-Out in 2023 to not only lead the rookie race, but also sit No. 2 in the PRCA World Standings.
With 88 points on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Faded Nights, Hayes added another prestigious title to his name - Resistol Rookie Roundup Champion.
“Only got one chance to come here and compete with all my buddies,” Hayes said afterward. “Figured out I’d get out of California for a litte while and come to Texas.”
No. 2 rookie bareback rider Kade Sonnier finished second behind Hayes with 86 points.
