No. 1 Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield Hustles to a Second Consecutive Reno Rodeo Title

Shad Mayfield’s lead in the World Standings extends itself as he claims his second Reno Rodeo win.

A 10.1-second run in Round 1 would become Shad Mayfield’s slowest time in Reno by 2.5 seconds. He would be the definition of consistent in Round 2 and the Short Go to make his time on three head 25.2 seconds. For the second straight year, Mayfield won both the Finals and the Average in Reno.

“First of all, I want to give all glory to God, without him I wouldn’t be here but yeah, you can’t back off right there. I knew I had a really good calf and the horsepower so it made it easy,” he said.

He backed into the box needing to be 9-seconds or faster in the Short Go and Mayfield would stop the clock at 7.6 seconds.

Mayfield was No. 1 in the Aggregate by two seconds, Shane Hanchey was 27.2. Cole Clemons rounded out the Top 3 in Reno.

With the win, Mayfield extends his lead in the PRCA World Standings to more than $62,000. He has already won $162,648 this season, which would have put him fourth heading into the 2023 NFR. He also has won enough in the team roping and steer roping to qualify for the All-Around World Standings, which he now leads by more than $100,000.
