No. 1 Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield Talks Horsepower in Pendleton

Shad Mayfield is competing in three events in Pendleton as he guns for his first career All-Around World Title and that means three different high-powered horses.

In his main event, tie-down roping, where he is also No. 1 in the World, he is going with his gray horse Platnium on the Pendleton grass.

“I didn’t want to take the risk of getting Lollipop hurt by riding her here, so I knew Platnium, he always protects himself and he’s an easy horse,” Mayfield said. “It was hard not to get on Lollipop, but I tried to make the smart desicion and save her.”

In the steer roping, he is riding Pac Man, who has been his primary tripping horse this year.
