No. 14 Bareback Rider Jacob Lees is Optimistic Heading into 2024 Governor’s Cup

Lees is in better position than he was a year ago when he made several clutch rides to finish No. 14

Jacob Lees is No. 14 in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings and is used to being on the bubble. A year ago, he made his first NFR despite entering the Governor’s Cup outside the Top 15.

“Last year, I was in a little bit tougher spot,” he said. “I feel as strong as ever and I’m ready to go ahead and finish strong.”

At this point in the season, Lees is not working out super hard because of an intense riding schedule, so it’s all about mobility and staying loose.

He’ll have a break in the schedule soon, because a season’s wortho of riding comes down to the Governor’s Cup, a place he has had plenty of success already.

The Idano native won $17,000 at the event in 2023 to jump from No. 18 to No. 14 and snag one of the final NFR spots.

“It means the world to me go back to that rodeo,” he said. “This year, I am going in 14th, hopefully it plays out similar or better (than last year).

The hype behind the Playoff Series has all led up to the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls to end the regular season with a bang.
