No. 5 Bareback Rider R.C. Landingham Enters NFR After Career-Best Regular Season

Meet the NFR Athletes is presented by Montana Silversmiths

RC Landingham

Steve Wrubel

R.C. Landingham is no stranger to the NFR, with 2024 being his fifth career qualification. Landingham put together his best regular season with $171,420 in earnings. Those earnings alone are already the fourth most of his career, which dates back to 2009.

Landingham will enter the NFR No. 5 in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings thanks to consistent riding throughout 2024 and some big-ticket victories.

Red Bluff Roundup, $8,615

Landingham provided possibly the best moment of the entire rodeo when he was matched up against the legendary Virgil of C5 Rodeo. Landingham and Virgil would be marked 92.5 points which was 5.5 points better than the next closest bareback rider at the rodeo. The ride earned him $8,615 and was a great start to his spring.

It was his first of five PRCA Playoff Series wins, which put him tied for third in the PRCA with World No. 1 Rocker Steiner.

Darby Xtreme Bareback, $7,106

Landingham earned a solid payday in Darby after going 177.5 on two. He opened the rodeo with 86.5 points which was good enough to advance him to the Finals. In the Finals, Landingham posted a 91-point ride on New Scarlet. While that would normally be good enough to win the rodeo, but it was only good for third in Darby.

There were four rides of 90+ in the Finals and all eight cowboys were marked at least 89 points.

Reno Rodeo, $17,430

One of Landingham’s most lucrative rodeos came when he kicked off 100 Rodeos in 100 Days with a win in Reno. Landingham opened with an 86.5-point ride to place third in Round 1. In the Second Round, Landingham placed second with an 87-point ride. While he didn’t have the ride he wanted in the Finals, with an 83.5-point ride, he did enough to win the Average at 257 on three.

The Calgary Stampede, $33,750

Not all of the $67,000 Landingham won in Calgary went to his PRCA earnings, but it still provided a big boost to his season and was his biggest win of the year. His rodeo was highlighted by the highest-marked ride we saw in 2024. His big ride once again came on Virgil, who he rode for 92.5 points earlier in the year. This time, the pair would outdo their earlier ride with a 94-point ride in the Finals.

It is the second consecutive year The Stampede was won on Virgil.

Sheridan Wyo Rodeo, $6,557

The day before, Landingham won the Stampede he was named the winner of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo. He was 88 points at the rodeo to get the win and take home over $6,500.

Deadwood Days of ’76 Rodeo, $5,293

Landingham closed down July with his first career win in South Dakota thanks to 87 points on Dakota Rodeo’s American Graffiti to split the win with Leighton Berry. This helped him reach his highest point in the World Standings all summer, No. 3.

Pendleton Round-Up, $6,822

Landingham feels right at home in Pendleton, having won there in 2021 and attended college there as well. In 2024, he was 86 points in Round 1 and 85 points in the Finals, but his 171 on two was only good enough for fifth in the Average. Rookie Weston Timberman won it with 173.5 points on two.
