Oklahoma Barrel Racer Emily Beisel Talks Liza, Sioux Falls and World Title Race

Defending Governor’s Cup Champion Emily Beisel returns to South Dakota.

The inaugural Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup ended with Emily Beisel taking home the win after a breakout four performances on her young mare, Liza. The dust settled with Beisel earning over $35,000 and she went on to her fifth National Finals Rodeo.

“It’s so hard to know, I mean, we ride a plethora of horses and the great ones, they just step up when you need them to and my goodness did she do it in a big way. I really had high hopes of running Chongo here last year and wasn’t able to. So it was all Liza and we just kind of came up here with a we’ll see what happens and my gosh, she just delivered time and time again. It was a blast,” Beisel said.

The game changing rodeo that is the Governor’s Cup is crucial for contestants on the bubble but even Beisel knows that every penny counts comes December.

As for her race for the World Title, Beisel knows the two cowgirls ahead of her well and the spectacular horsepower that comes with them but says her biggest competition is herself.

A tipped barrel in Round 1 kept Beisel out of the money but Round 2 is up next and it is a new day.
