Paul Tierney on His Big Time Rodeo Family

Paul Tierney is a legend in rodeo and now his kids are all following in his footsteps of living life the cowboy way and hitting the rodeo road.

In fact, it was Paul’s horse that he took to the National Finals Rodeo in 1986 that also helped his oldest son, Jess, begin his roping career. From breakaway roping, tying calves and team roping, the Tienery family did it all.

His boys enjoyed it just like Paul did when he was a kid, roping every night until the sun set. When high school came around, it was time for Jess and Paul David to steer wrestle and when they asked Paul why, he said because one day you will want to go to the Timed Event in Guthrie.

“Both the boys had a lot of success in high school and they’ve had marginal success in college... but you never lose sight of what you want to accomplish, that’s what’s going on with the boys,” Paul said.

As for his daughters, they are just as good as the boys. They ran barrels, tied goats, breakaway ropers and team roped through college. His youngest daughter, Jordan would go on to have a history making reign as Miss Rodeo America.

“We’re just a big-time rodeo family, we do it all,” Paul said.

The opportunities in rodeo continue to grow and if you ask Paul, everything is good.
