Pendleton 2024

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The Pendleton Round-Up had perhaps the biggest rodeo in its more than 120 year history as attendance records were broken during two performances and more than $60 million was generated for the local area.

Jake Finlay Wows in the Saddle Bronc Riding Finals with 91 Points on The Black Tie

Finlay, who entered the weekend No. 29, split the Long Round with a pair of Top 10 cowboys (Zeke Thurston and Statler Wright) before exploding for 91 points on the 2023 Reserve Horse of the Year. He finished with 176.5 points on two to win more than $13,000 and move to No. 22 in the PRCA World Standings.

“This is huge for me, I don’t have words right now,” Finlay said. “That one right there was for Witch Holman.”

This year, there have been 10 rides on The Black Tie of Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics and six of them have been worth 90 or more.

Ty Harris Re-Takes No. 2 Spot in the World Standings With Win

Harris saved the fastest run of the rodeo for the Finals, which he entered seventh in Pendleton, before an 8.4 rallied him to an aggregate time of 30.1 seconds on three to split the win with Preston Pederson. That win proved crucial in the World Standings as Harris jumped back over Haven Meged and once again sits No. 2 in the World with $217,409.

“I’ve had a slow last month, I was just glad to make a good run. In the back of my mind, I never thought I’d be (the Pendleton Round-Up Champion,” he said.

Trevor Reiste Sweeps Bull Riding, Jumps Three More Spots in the Standings

Reiste was on the bubble just a few weeks ago and then got some breathing room thanks to a win at the Cinch Playoffs in Puyallup. He took it one step further in Pendleton, essentially locking in his first NFR since 2017 by riding for 87 and 91.5 points. Combined those two rodeos paid him more than $30,000.

The latter of those two rides was on Blue Magic, a bull he rode earlier in the week for 90.5 points at the Pendleton Xtreme Bulls Finale.

“Just kept my hand shut and tried as hard as I could,” he said of the rematch.

Reiste is No. 9 in the PRCA World Standings.

Other winners included Weston Timberman in the bareback riding (173.5 points on two), Jesse Brown in steer wrestling (18.3 seconds on three), Dustin Egusquiza/Levi Lord in team roping (17.9 seconds on three), Kelsie Domer in breakaway roping (6.4 seconds on two), and Lisa Lockhart in barrel racing (57.29 seconds on two)
