Pickup Men: The Unsung Heroes of Rodeo

It can be said that pickup men are the unsung heroes in the rodeo arena.

They are in the arena for six of eight events and they display skills that those in the Western industry have an appreciation for including horsemanship, roping and more.

Picking up is an art that not just anybody can master.

“It’s staying in control in an uncontrolled situation,” said Bobby Steiner, 1972 PRCA World Championship.

A pickup man is what a cowboy is supposed to be.
