There is one more weekend in the regular season and the NFR picture is almost complete in the bareback riding.

At the top, Cole Reiner and Jess Pope’s see-saw battle to enter the NFR No. 1 has continued, with Reiner pulling ahead by about $2,500 thanks to a win a the Madison Pro Rodeo (Indiana) and a second place finish at Young Living’s Last Chance Rodeo (Utah). Both of those wins paid more than $3,000.

Reiner as the new No. 1 is far from the only story in bareback riding as the season draws to a close as plenty of other cowboys had noteworthy weekends.

3. Caleb Bennett

With Tim O’Connell and Jess Pope both nursing injuries as the regular season ends, every dollar Bennett makes could make the difference in a Gold Buckle. Over the weekend, the nine-time NFR qualifier squeezed just over $3,400 out of two rodeos by making two rides of more than 85 points. Bennett’s best career finish is No. 4 in the world and he has finished in the Top 10 seven times.

6. Kaycee Feild

The six-time World Champion went to just one rodeo last weekend before heading home for the rest of the season, and he won it. Feild’s last act of the 2022 regular season was banking more than $4,600 for an 89.5-point ride at Young Living’s Last Chance Rodeo. He will likely enter the NFR about $35,000 behind the world leader, the same total he needed to make up when he won the World Title last year.

10. Cole Franks

Since returning from injury in the middle of August, Franks is 16-of-17 and averaging 83.9 points. In that time, he has earned a check on 13 outs. This past weekend, Franks won the Cowboy Capital of the Word Rodeo (Texas) and finished third at the Amarillo Tri-State Fair and Rodeo (Texas).

15. Ty Breuer

Breuer got much-needed wins at the River City Rodeo (Nebraska) and the Amarillo Tri-State Rodeo as part of a weekend in which he won almost $7,000 and put some distance between himself and No. 16 Wyatt Denny. Breuer now leads by about $4,000.

16. Wyatt Denny

Breuer may have added a bit to his lead on Denny, but the three-time NFR qualifier is staying in the fight thanks to second place finishes at the River City Rodeo and Sheriff’s PRCA Rodeo (California). Both rodeos paid him more than $2,500.
