Marty Yates is a veteran tie-down roper and his game held up over five runs for a win at California Rodeo Salinas. It was the first time in a career that has included nine NFRs that he has won there.

Although Yates was not in the money in Round 1 or 2, his times of 10.6 seconds and 11.3 were fast enough to keep him in the Average. Fortunately, Salinas is a rodeo where you come back to the Short Go on just that and Yates was sitting inside the cut line.

On Championship Sunday, Yates backed into the box where he would run a time of 9.4-seconds, the second fastest tie-down roping run of the rodeo. This was also the fastest run of the Short Go by almost two full seconds. This run by itself was worth $1,300.

In total, Yates payday at California Rodeo Salinas was over $8,500 and the Texas cowboy is the No. 7 ranked tie-down roper in the PRCA World Standings.

Salinas marked his third PRCA Playoff Series win of the year and he also showed well at two Playoff Rodeos in Utah, Salt Lake City and Ogden, both of which wrap up Wednesday.

With a 6.8 in Round 2 and an aggregate time of 14.5 seconds on two, he leads the Average at the Ogden Pioneer Days. Meanwhile, he has already won more than $4,000 in Salt Lake City and will rope for the Gold Medal there Wednesday.
