Shad Mayfield has held the No. 1 spot in the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standing for majority of the regular season and the 2020 World Champion is looking to end the season with a substantial lead. He cinched the Puyallup Cinch Playoffs win the fastest run of the rodeo to be your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
Mayfield was out in the Second Playoff Round and in his First-Go, he set the precedent of winning when he was one of three 7.9-second runs that split the Go-Round win. In the Fourth Performance and his Second-Go, he was an 8.4 to be second. His 16.3 on two made him the No. 1 tie-down roper from Playoff 2 to advance to the Semifinals.
A 10.8 would be Mayfield’s Semifinals time and that was fast enough for second-place and an advancement to the Final Four Round. It was there were he clocked a 7.4 to be the fastest cowboy of the day and the entire rodeo. A $13,000 run only furthered his lead in the World Standings.
The New Mexico native now has a $30,000 lead in the World above veteran Ty Harris and World Champions Haven Meged and Riley Webb. With Lollipop still holding down the horsepower side of things for Mayfield, he continues to impress despite lingering injuries.
With only three weeks left in the regular standings, Mayfield is looking to set himself up for a second Gold Buckle and a win in Puyallup also cinched him a spot at the new and iconic Govenor’s Cup in South Dakota.
