Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week: Shad Mayfield’s Reign as No. 1 Continues with July Wins

Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield picks up what could be the final win of the regular season.

Shad Mayfield has dominated the entire 2024 regular season, and it was no different when he back into the box at the Daddy of ‘Em All. His success in Wyoming has furthered his lead and he is your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.

In the First Qualifying Round in Cheyenne, Mayfield’s time of 9.6 seconds was fast enough to be a second-place finish and Mayfield made it back to the performances. In Performance 6, Mayfield topped the leaderboard with a 10.8-second run to advance yet again. In the Semifinals, Mayfield would only be two tenths of a second slower than the previous day to finish first in Semifinals 1. In the Finals, the No. 1 tie-down roper in the World would tie his second fastest time of Cheyenne. His 9.8 would cinch him the title at the Daddy of ‘Em All by almost three seconds.

Simultaneously with his impressive performances in Cheyenne, Mayfield swung over to Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo where he won the Average claiming $4,500 while also picking up a payday in South Dakota. At Deadwood Days of ’76 a 7.5-second run would be the Round 2 winning time courtesy of Mayfield.

Not only does Mayfield lead the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standings by $10,000, he also continues to lead the PRCA All-Around World Standings. An impressive season early, despite injuries, on has lead Mayfield to make the decision that he will return home and heal before he tries for his second Gold Buckle in Las Vegas. He concluded his regular season with an iconic win at the Cheyenne Frontier Days to be your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
