Shad Mayfield came into the Summer Run with a significant lead in the World Standings but the five-time National Finals Tie-Down Roper and 2020 World Champion knows that there is no letting off the gas in rodeo. A big win in Reno for the second time makes him your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
Although his trip to Reno started out on the slower side with a 10.1-second run, Mayfield would make up for it in every way as he went full throttle into Round 2 and the Short Go.
Mayfield’s smoking 7.5-second run would win Round 2 and be worth $6,600 on its own before he made an almost identical run in the Short Go. On Championship Saturday, Mayfield would be the last cowboy to back in the box only needing to be 9 seconds to win it all. The No. 1 cowboy in the World nodded and shut the clock off at a blazing quick 7.6 seconds, getting the win by two seconds.
Mayfield’s second consecutive Reno title added $18,000 to further his lead in the World Standings but his week did not stop there. An impressive run in Round 2 at the Ponoka Stampede proved to be worth $4,000 while he also cashed in during Round 1 of the Greeley Stampede.
Mayfield not only has a $62,000 lead in the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standings but he has taken over the lead in the All-Around race as well. He is your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
