Canadian steer wrestler and four-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier Scott Guenthner had semi-retired from the professional rodeo road after his 2021 season but the rodeos he decides to still enter, he wins. An NFR Open title has launched him into the Top 15 in the World and he is your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.

Guenthner was in Pool C in Colorado Springs and a 5.0 in Round 1 split a third-place finish with Will Lummus. In Round 2, Guethner bested his Round 1 time by 1.2 seconds to get the Go-Round win. He was 8.8 seconds on two head, qualifying for the Final Round and adding $4,125 to his earnings.

When the Finals rolled around, Guethner excelled under pressure to throw the fastest time of the rodeo with a 3.5-second run. He would win the title and add $13,000 more to his name.

Guenthner had only entered three rodeos prior to the NFR Open for the 2024 season: the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, RodeoHouston and the Calgary Stampede. Although he is now the No. 13 ranked steer wrestler in the PRCA World Standings, he plans on staying semi-retired and returning home to Canada.

Although Guenthner still backs into the box at the big rodeos, family is first for the Alberta cowboy but the huge win that is the NFR Open makes him your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
