Of all the Long Shots at the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup, Kollin VonAhn was arguably the longest. But you can never count a World Champion out and VonAhn had the hammer down. The pay day that came with the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup win put VonAhn into the Top 15 and makes him your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
Although VonAhn said that he just lucky over and over again in Sioux Falls, he got it started right when they clocked a 4.4 in Round 1. VonAhn caught a leg in Round 2 but the team roping duo stayed in the Top 8 in the Average to come back to the Semifinals.
On Championship Saturday, a 4.0 would be the time that Andrew Ward and VonAhn advanced to the Final Four with. In that Final Four, they roped a 3.9 to be two tenths of a second faster than anybody else and win it all.
The payout of the Governor’s Cup is season changing and bubble bursting money. Ward was safe and headed to Las Vegas after roping this winter with a different partner. It was VonAhn who needed to win to get his shot at a return to Las Vegas and they did just that.
For the first time since 2015, the year he won his Gold Buckle, VonAhn is headed back to the Thomas and Mack. But before that, his success in Sioux Falls makes him your Pyranha Timed Event Athlete of the Week.
