Rafter G Rodeo Retired a Legend of Their Own in Fort Worth When Assault Entered the Arena For the Final Time

Rafter G is retiring the legendary 23-year-old horse after 14 NFRs

Rafter G Rodeo retired one of their greats this past week in Fort Worth.

At the age of 23-years-old 105 Assault has made his last trip to the arena. The horse was selected to the National Finals Rodeo 14 times and also made 19 trips to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

Assault is more like family to the Gays.

“Assault, from day one, was spectacular. We have a lot of special horses in the business, we like them all, like our kids. But he was very special from the very first trip... He’s basically one of a kind, his heart, he’ll be irreplacable for us,” said Jim Gay.

Assault made things come full circle for Gay as his daughters grew up on the rodeo road alongside Assault.

“I see things now that my father has seen... it’s all part of our rodeo family,” he said.

A special send off was said for Assault in Fort Worth, it was a moment that brought tears to many eyes but Gay said it was more like a party.
