Oklahoma bull rider Jeter Lawrence hit a hot streak in early September and never looked back. It might have taken him the whole month but he has unofficially taken over the No. 1 spot in the Resistol Rookie race to be your Resistol Rookie Athlete of the Week.
A $66,000 month for Lawrence was capped off with an exceptional performance at the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup. He kicked started it all with an 85.5 on Harper and Morgan Rodeo’s High Noon. That was followed up with an 87 in Round 2 on Fettig Pro Rodeo’s Closet Gangster.
Lawrence was the No. 1 bull rider advancing to the Semifinals after riding both Go-Round bulls put him at the lead in the Average by 40 points. It was a clean slate in the Semifinals and Finals but that Average would be what propelled Lawrence into the Finals when only two qualified rides came out of the Semifinals.
Lawrence’s Final Four matchup was Championship Pro Rodeo’s Yelawolf and his 85-point ride would put him third. In total, Lawrence would leave Sioux Falls with over $27,000 added to his name.
Not only did the Oklahoma cowboy over take Wacey Schalla for No. 1 in the Resistol Rookie Bull Riding Standings, he also solidified his first National Finals Rodeo qualification as he sits, unofficially, as the No. 6 ranked bull rider in the PRCA World Standings.
Lawrence started heating up at the beginning of the final month of the season and he stayed hot to be your Resistol Rookie Athlete of the Week.
