There is a Louisiana bareback rider that is in the midst of his rookie year and taking the bareback riding world by storm. His name is Kade Sonnier and he is your Resistol Rookie of the Week, yet again.

Sonnier has been a force to be reckoned with this season and his first Calgary Stampede was no different. With his back against the wall, Sonnier won the Third Round of his pool and to get a spot in the Semifinals.

He matched up with Calgary Stampede’s Born Fearless to be 88.5 points in the Semifinals on Championship Sunday before he picked a horse that he has recently had a huge success on for the Finals, the legendary bronc of C5 Rodeo, Virgil.

Sonnier knew exactly what was in store on the big grey, as he won the Long Round on the Ponoka Stampede on him just a few weeks prior.

Sonnier and Virgil’s trip added up to 92 points to make the rookie bareback rider the Calgary Stampede Champion. It’s the second straight year the bareback riding was won by a rookie in Calgary and the win took Sonnier from No. 10 all the way up to No. 3 in the PRCA World Standings.
