Madison Outhier’s claim to fame came in 2019 when she became the first ever breakaway roping champion of RFD-TV’s The American while being a sophomore in high school. Now she can add ‘Resistol Rookie Of The Year’ to her distinguished resume as well.

Breakaway roping took off in the professional rodeo world at the perfect time for Outhier. The 2021 season was the first full season of breakaway roping, and it was Outhier’s rookie year. She finished the year 22nd in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association standings and finished no. 1 in the Resistol Rookie standings. She was short of making the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, however, she had an outstanding year earning over $20,000.

Outhier went to under 50 rodeos this year and still earned enough to stay in the top 25 in the world. In Red Bluff, California she ended up third in the average with 5.7 on two head and she won the average at the Days of 76 Rodeo in Deadwood, South Dakota with 6.0 on two head. She was a smoking 1.8 seconds in Durant, Oklahoma to be the champion before she headed up north for the summer run. Outhier picked up checks in Vernal, Utah and Lewiston and Missoula, Montana. She also won Idaho Falls with a 2.0 second run. This is just a glimpse at the success that the young cowgirl has had just this year.

Outhier was born into a competitive family from both ends of the equine world. Her dad is Mike Outhier, 4-time NFR competitor and her mother is Kristy Outhier, a top women’s polo player. She’s been roping since she was little and it is safe to say that it paid off. Madison Outhier is your 2021 Resistol Rookie of the Year in the breakaway roping.
