Resistol Rookie Roundup Champion Steer Wrestler Parker Sandstrom is the Underdog No More

Parker Sandstrom topped the leaderboard in the Final 4 to win it all.

North Dakota’s Parker Sandstrom might not have come into the Rookie Roundup with the highest of hopes but that all changed after the fist night.

A 5.0 in the Long Round put Sandstrom third and advanced him to the Shootout. In the Final 4, Sandstrom’s 4.8-second run clinched the title by half a second over Boyd Sawyer, the No. 2 ranked rookie steer wrestler.

"(I) just knew what I had to be on that steer today, my horse worked great, thankfully I found a great hazer here and I couldn’t have asked for a better run,” Sandstrom said.

Sandstrom added over $3,000 to his season earnings and is now inside the Top 10 rookie steer wrestlers as the Resistol Rookie Race carries on into the California Run and then the Summer Run.
