Riley Webb is currently in the lead of Resistol’s Rookie of the Year race in the tie-down roping.
Webb turned 18 in August 2021, bought his permit and dove headfirst into professional rodeo. He won the first three rodeos he entered to fill his permit and now he has racked up almost $11,000 so far with three go round wins under his belt.
Webb attributes his success to a great support system, great horses and hard work.
“I’ve been waiting for this year basically my whole life, for it to be my rookie year and go make the NFR,” Webb said.
Webb knows how vital horsepower is in the game of rodeo and his trailer is loaded down with some of the best calf horses on the road. His main mount, Titus, has been with him since 2020 and qualified Webb for the American and is the No. 1 choice for most rodeos. However, Popeye is a newer addition to Webb’s string of equine athletes and he is busy taking Webb to the pay window; that is including the rodeos that Webb filled his permit with.
Trevor Hale is No. 2 behind Webb is the rookie standings followed by Dallen McIntire. The talent in the tie-down roping this year is undeniable but you can catch Webb, the No. 1 man in the rookie race, at Rodeo Austin and Montgomery, Alabama next.
