Road To NFR roundtable talks bull riding

The bull riding in Las Vegas is always a fan favorite and the caliber of cowboys headed to the Thomas & Mack this year is unlike any other.

The No. 1 bull rider is none other than the six-time World Champion Sage Kimzey and that is not a surprise. Behind Kimzey is Stetson Wright, who is having a year for the history books after winning the 2020 World Title and Clayton Sellars, the Florida cowboy who has been on fire through the month of September, which ended with him winning the ProRodeo Tour Finale.

JB Mauney has qualified in the No. 7 position but his regular season ended in September with an injury. Injuries are not known for keeping Mauney down long and according to our own Justin McKee, “JB Mauney can ride himself into a healthy position.. he’s done it his whole career.”

Mauney is always one that people are watching and another cowboy that has caught the spotlight this year is Resistol Rookie of the Year Creek Young. Young has been solidly in the Top 5 for the second half of the season and the three cowboys who finished ahead of him in the standings were all past Resistol Rookies of the Year themselves.

Finally, the Cinderella story of bull riding came in the name of Ruger Piva, who had to fight for that No. 12 spot. He hit the road up until the last day of the season to earn enough to get into the Top 15 after finishing the last two years at the No. 17 spot in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings. Piva is headed to Vegas with a fire inside of him.
