8X World Champion bull rider Donnie Gay joined Steve Kenyon on the premiere episode of “Road To Texas! 2020 NFR” to talk about the National Finals returning to his home state (where he first watched the it from the audience back in 1959 - 1961).
Gay discusses the arena layout at Globe Life Field and how it will affect the roughstock events, the field of contestants in the bull riding and all-around race, as well as standouts Stetson Wright and Sage Kimzey.
This year qualifying in both the bull riding and the saddle bronc riding, Stetson Wright returns to the NFR for a second consecutive year to defend his all-around title. He’s currently in the lead but No. 2 man Tuf Cooper is only about $1,000 behind him. Donnie’s advice for Stetson: “Do what you do best, trust your training, and go get the money.”
On 6X world champion bull rider Sage Kimzey — who he promised to pull the rope in the tenth round once he gets to number 8, Donnie says, “All he’s got to do is take care of business. You can’t be complacent, and it’s one ride at a time.”
