Road to The Horse Wildcard Champion Cole Cameron on His Win

Cole Cameron carried on the family name with his 2021 Road to The Horse Wildcard Championship. In the final year of his father, Craig Cameron competing at Road to The Horse, he won himself a title.

Cole caught up with Amy Wilson and looked back on the exhausting weekend.

Cameron said, “That number 9 horse started out pretty tough. I just kind of had to stick with my gameplan and trust the process. I just wasn’t there to win Friday or win Saturday, I was there to get my Colt ready for Sunday.”

Building a bond over the course of the three-day event was vital in the win.

“I’m excited to get him home... I am probably going to let him decompress for a month turn him out and let him be a horse then start off with some gentling. He is going to need, every day some haltering and rubbing he is not going to be ready to go down the trail just yet, but I am excited.”

Cole knew he had a lot to learn to get to this point and being around his father daily, he had a great mentor to learn from.

“Obviously I am around a great horseman (Craig Cameron) every day of my life who is always trying to get me to think about different ways of doing stuff and slowing down... I probably watched Road to The Horse DVDs every day for the last three months.”

As the Wildcard Champion Cole has locked in his spot for next year’s Road to The Horse.
