The leaderboard in the tie-down roping at Rodeo Austin remained the same since Performance 1 until reigning World Champion Caleb Smidt backed into the box. Smidt took over the lead in Round 1 of Rodeo Austin when he made a run in 7.6 seconds.
“I just got a good start and the calf was supposed to be a touch stronger but she ended up being really good, took the tie so here we are,” he said.
Going into the Semifinals, Smidt’s going for another 7.0 second run that would cinch him a spot in the Finals. From there, the multi-time World Champion calf roper could add Rodeo Austin to his long list of accolades.
