Rookie Bareback Rider and Record Setter Keenan Hayes Catches Up with Maggie Burke

Colorado’s Keenan Hayes has a lead of more than $100,000 in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings going into the National Finals Rodeo.

After breaking the PRCA Permit Earnings Record in 2022, it was only right that he followed it up by breaking the PRCA Bareback Regular Season Earnings Record during his Resistol Rookie year.

“I didn’t really think much of it at all, I kind of found out last minute, actually a week or two before I broke it, it’s awesome,” he said. I actually know that guy that had it before me, he was a part of the association I did when I was a kid, so that was really cool to know him and be able to take it from him a few years later.”

Hayes said that every win helped him get to this point, his main focus was staying consistent and have fun riding bareback horses. With all the highs came a few lows but for Hayes, that just meant going back to the basics.

A rookie bareback rider has never won a Gold Buckle and that is something that Hayes has his sights set on.

“Oh yeah, I knew that one. That was about the only thing I thought about all year is that when I heard that last year,” he said. “So that’d be really cool to do. That’s been my main goal all year and hopefully I can go out there and just have fun and that comes with it, hopefully.”
