Rookie Bareback Rider Sage Allen Sitting No.1 in the Resistol Rookie Race and No. 13 in the World

Big wins in Texas and consistent rides have led the Idaho cowboy to sit No. 13 in the World Standings.

Sage Allen, out of Blackfoot, Idaho, is making a serious statement as a rookie in the bareback riding world. He’s leading the Resistol Rookie of the Year race by over $30,000 and shows no signs of slowing down.

After not getting through to be able to compete at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo as well as RODEOHOUSTON, Allen took full advantage of the remainder of the Texas Swing—picking up big wins at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo as well as in San Angelo.

Last weekend in San Angelo, Allen put together two solid rides—an 89-point ride in the long round on Cosmic Stardust and an 89.5-point ride in the short round paired up with Pete Carr’s Worth the Whiskey to take home the title.

“I knew I was going to be some points after that ride, so I was fired up—there’s no feeling like turning to the crowd and it being electric in there” Allen said.

Currently sitting at No.1 in the Resistol Rookie standings and No. 13 in the world, he says the pressure doesn’t get to him.

“It just makes it that much more fun knowing I get to, and can compete with the top guys,” he said.

Allen says he is keeping things simple, sticking to his routine of getting on the spur board every day to keep his consistency rolling. “Trying to perfect the craft” is what he mentioned as his goal, along with staying in the Top 15 with the hope of making his first National Finals Rodeo and obtaining the title of Resistols Rookie of the Year when the year ends.
