Rookie Bareback Rider Sage Allen Talks All Things San Antonio and Wild Thang, His Rookie Year and More

Sage Allen breaks down his San Antonio Finals and shares just how he got here.

Resistol Rookie bareback rider Sage Allen’s trip to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is one that will go down has a highlight of his career. He was 90 points for the first time and it landed him the Final Round win.

“Yessir, it was building and we were finally able to make it happen. It was awsome, we got there a day early. We drove 18 hours straight from Rapid City so we could make the perf and man, when I walked in there and looked at the top, I was like man this is the place. You know, that crowd got crazy and I was like, yep, this is going to be awesome,” Allen said.

Allen won two out of three Go-Rounds in his bracket before he selected Wild Thang of Championship Pro Rodeo for his Final matchup.

“I ended up being the last pick and there was Wild Thang and one other horse up there and I was like definitely Wild Thang because back in high school they used to play that song every time I got on a bareback horse so I was like this is going to work out perfect and it did work out awesome,” he said.

The rookie cowboy had a veteran mentality going into the second leg of the Texas Swing. He made sure to keep it simple and it paid off.

Among the people helping in Allen’s corner are Donald Waymire and Kelly Wardell. From high school to college rodeo, these two have built Allen up through many aspects of life.

Allen now sits No. 1 in the Resistol Rookie Race with a $9,000 lead and he is No. 11 in the PRCA World Standings.
