Rusty Wright said it first in Houston, he is back. After his 2021 season ending without a National Finals Rodeo qualification, Wright is ready to take on the 2022 season.
“It feels good to be back, I had a rough year or two, we got things rolling again, it’s feeling really good,” he said.
The mental side of rodeo is just as important as the physical side and there is a point in every contestant’s career when they have the choice to persevere or quit.
“I’ve been told I rode into this slump, I can ride out of it and it just really does take one horse to turn everything around. Luckily, it was here at Houston this first round, it just kind of clicked for me,” Wright said.
The one horse turned out to be Cervi Rodeo’s Blood Angel. Wright says that he feels good, his saddle feels good and it feels good to be back.
Wright has also had rematches in Houston and he has come out the winner every time. In Round 3 of Super Series II it was Lancaster and Jones Angel Fire and at the Super Shootout it was Calgary Stampede’s Wild Cherry.
There is no better way to make a comeback than the way Wright has been riding lately. We will see him next in the Rodeo Houston Semifinals.
