Rusty Wright Takes Share of Lead in Round 1 of Reno Rodeo With 87-Point Ride in Fifth Performance

Wright is climbing the World Standings after recently cracking the Top 50

Rusty Wright already has 10 checks in June and he’s in position for what may be his biggest one in Reno after an 87-point ride on Corey & Lange’s Diamond Fever moved him into a tie for first in Round 1.

“It was really important to stay ahead of him, horse like that getting in the air feels really good if you’re ahead of him, but if you get behind, you’ll hang your feet and get your butt bucked off,” he said.

Wright will compete again Wednesday night and needs 81.5 points to wrestle the Average lead from Ryder Sanford. The last time he rode for 87 or more points was at the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo on June 2, which he won.

Wright was outside the Top 50 four weeks ago and is now No. 38 in the World.
