Sage Kimzey was pushed all the way to Round 10 but was able to fend off 2020 World Champion Stetson Wright, 2021 Average champion Josh Frost and the rest of the bull riding field to his seventh Gold Buckle in the last eight years.
Kimzey ended the year with $411,465. Frost was the next closest cowboy at $363,353.
Kimzey entered the NFR with a lead of about $60,000 on Stetson Wright and rode 6-of-10 bulls to finish third in the Average. Kimzey rode his last three bulls to reclaim the title after Stetson Wright overtook him the projected final standings following his Round 7 win. Kimzey won a check in every round he made the whistle and earned about $147,000 at the NFR.
“The only emotions that are coming to mind right now is just thankful and grateful,” Kimzey said after winning the World Title. “This year has been a trying year.”
Kimzey is now tied with Jim Shoulders for the second-most PRCA Bull Riding World Titles behind Don Gay, who has eight.
