Sage Kimzey made the decision in 2022 to surgically repair a shoulder injury in June and miss the remainder of the season. He spent more than seven months recovering and preparing for the moment he would return to the arena, and that moment came in Fort Worth, Texas at Bulls’ Night Out.
Kimzey went on to ride Big Rafter Rodeo’s Trunk Monkey for 89.5 points for the Round 1 win.
“It doesn’t get any better. I’ve put in more work for the last six months than I probably have my entire career. It’s been hard,” he said.
Kimzey’s goal from the start of his career has been no less than eight Gold Buckles, and he has offiicially gotten 2023 started gunning for No. 8.
