Sage Newman Makes a Statement in First Performance of Cheyenne Frontier Days

The well-known saddle bronc rider rode for 89 points on United Pro Rodeo’s Ropin Dreams to kick off the Daddy of ‘em All

The No. 4 Saddle Bronc Rider in the PRCA World Standings, Sage Newman, continues to add to this year’s earnings as he won the First Performance to advance in Cheyenne.

Newman had an 89-point ride on United Pro Rodeo’s Ropin Dreams during the Saturday afternoon performance that earned him a little over $2,000.

Newman was happy to have drawn such a great horse to kick off the Daddy of ‘em All.

“I just kept hustling, you know, I was waiting for the whistle. That thing kept getting stronger and stronger. Yeah, it was a good horse and I was happy to have him,” Newman said.

Despite the tough competitors in the bucking chutes beside him, Newman came out on top with a one-point lead over the second place man, Kolby Wanchuk.

“Oh it’s awesome for me to be riding against all these guys, I mean that was an awesome bronc riding as you guys seen,” he said. “Great horses, and just a good day in Cheyenne. We’re just getting the summer rolling kind of through a lot of rodeos left. And, yeah. We’re having fun.”
