Odessa, Texas was the stage for the first PRCA Playoff Series Rodeo of 2025 and the Winter Run is off and running with the National Western and Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo also taking place in the coming week.

The first Playoff Series champion of the year was Tucker Carricato, a 19-year-old bareback rider who has already dominated two events for the top permitholders in 2024 recently. His first win in ProRodeo was thanks to 86 points aboard Beutler & Son’s Smoke Bomb.

After three straight Top 30 finishes, steer wrestler Riley Duvall is looking to find himself back in the Top 15 for the first time since 2021 and he took a big first step to doing just that in Odessa. He was 7.8 seconds on two and placed in the Top 3 of both rounds to win the rodeo by four tenths of a second.

In team roping, a new partnership quickly paid off as Lightning Aguilera/Wyatt Cox won Round 1 and the Average. Aguilera’s primary partner in 2024 was Jonathan Torres while Cox roped with Chad Masters.

The lone cowboy to defend their Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo title was Statler Wright, who was one point better than his 87.5 in 2024. After 88.5 points on Diamond G’s To The Limit and a payday of $4,286, Wright is No. 4 in the PRCA World Standings in the early going.

Shad Mayfield set the PRCA Regular Season Earnings record in 2024 and started his 2025 with another victory. He was 17.1 seconds on two while no other roper was under 18 seconds on two. He is currently No. 2 in the World Standings behind John Douch.

A one-header in the breakaway roping is always exciting and Karen Little’s 1.8-second run got her the victory. There were only two cowgirls faster than 2 seconds, however, there were 18 times of 2.4 seconds or faster.

Barrel racer Wenda Johnson stopped the clock at 14.79 seconds in the Second Performance in Odessa and she managed to hold off 14.80 and 14.81-second runs to get the win.

In bull riding, Vinell was 4.5 points better than the rest with 86 points on Beutler & Son’s Shake N Bake to win his first ever Playoff Series Rodeo.
