Sarah Dawson Wins Open Derby To Become NRCHA’s Newest Million Dollar Rider

Happening currently is one of the biggest shows of the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s year, the Celebration of Champions and the World’s Greatest Horseman.

Sarah Dawson has won the 2022 Tres Osos Cow Horse Derby Open on a mare called Silvarey. Dawson has had success on this mare before when she won the Snaffle Bit Futurity in 2020.

“I showed [Silvarey’s] mom and that mare was the first one that I made an open futurity finals on… the family line is very important to me now,” Dawson said.

With winning the Open Derby, Dawson is also the NRCHA’s newest million dollar rider. Dawson says that this is her proudest accomplishment to date. Dawson and Silvarey’s rein work brought in a score of 224, their herd work was 216.5 and their fence work was 223.5 points.

This NRCHA show is a busy time for trainers and competitors and the Dawsons are hard at work with their team and they will be taking home new champion titles from Fort Worth.
