Seven-Time World Champion Sage Kimzey Looks Forward to Summer Run

Sage Kimzey’s seven Gold Buckles did not come easy but there is something different about 2023. Kimzey has slowed down in a big way. So far, he has only been to around 12 events but he has still managed to end up inside the Top 10 in the World.

“It’s been a balancing act, balancing health and going to as many rodeos as possible. Honestly, with Steele being at home, a one-year-old baby, it makes it hard to leave. So I’ve just been trying to pick around. I had a decent winter run… Just getting ready for the summer to heat up and big money,” Kimzey said.

Since shoulder surgery, Kimzey has been building up strength in that shoulder and it feels good but he says it fatigues really quick but his vision for the summer looks good.

Something else that is a little different than it used to be is the overall riding percentages in bull riders as a whole. For Kimzey, there is one group in particular to thank for that.

“It’s a credit to the stock contractors and the bull business, honestly… All these stock contractors have done a great job putting together a great pen of bulls and the breeding programs just came so far. There’s so many good bulls out there and pretty much any time we enter, we have a chance to win, which is nice,” he said.

Kimzey is gearing up for the summer run and looking for a return to the Thomas and Mack. He will be one to watch through 100 Rodeos in 100 Days.
