Shad Mayfield on Learning from Joe Beaver and Roping with Tyson Durfey

No. 1 tie-down roper Shad Mayfield has not slowed down during the quarantine, working every day to stay sharp, and he’s had help from some of the best.

Mayfield talks about competing at match ropings (against cowboys such as Tyson Durfey) at Joe Beaver’s place and what he’s learned from the 8X world champion — which includes taking full advantage of his long rope.

“I’ve always been to Joe’s roping since I was little,” Shad says, “and he’d always pull my arm out and say, ‘Look at all that range — use it.’”

On the current quarantine, Shad says, “Iv’e just been at home, getting to work, and you know, it kind of gets boring, not being out there on the road... it really makes you realize how much we miss rodeo, you know. It’s our lifestyle.”
