Shai Schaefer Makes Breakaway Roping History in San Antonio

Shai Schaefer sets brand new arena record in San Antonio with a 1.5-second run in Semifinals 1

Breakaway roper Shai Schaefer has etched her name in the history books of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo as she turned in a time of 1.5 seconds in Semifinals 1 to break the arena record inside the Frost Bank Center.

“I knew I needed to be aggressive and forget everything that had happened up to this moment and seeing all those girls be so wicked tonight, it was good, it was a good breakaway roping tonight,” Schaefer said.

Schaefer secured her spot in the Semifinals by advancing out of Bracket 2, claiming the final position in the qualifiers. She earned $2,500 from a win in Round 2 as she tied the previous arena record with a run of 1.6 seconds.

The Finals qualifiers out of Semifinals 1 feature top contenders Joey Williams leading with $7,750, followed by Schaefer with $7,500, Maddy Deerman with $6,750, Braylee Shepherd with $6,500, and Erin Johnson with $5,750.
