Silver State Stampede: Recap and Highlights

The Silver State Stampede in Elko, Nevada wrapped up over the weekend with some of the top rookies walking away with titles and veteran cowboys setting new records.

In the bareback riding, rookie Waylon Bourgeois topped the leader board with an 88-point ride on Championship Pro Rodeo’s Boom Boom Girl to get the win. He added more than $3,000 to his season earnings while National Finals qualifiers Taylor Broussard and Cole Reiner split second with 86-point rides.

Records were broken in the steer wrestling when Cody Cabral went 3.5 seconds to become the new champion. Stan Branco, Blake Mindemann, Rowdy Parrott and Tyler Waguespack were right behind him with a series of 3.6-second runs.

The team roping in Elko was a tight race as well. Travis and Tyler Whitlow pulled out the win with a 4.1-second run while Brenton Hall, Chases Tryan, Coleman Proctor and Logan Medlin were gunning for the win all making runs under 4.5 seconds.

The top three in the saddle bronc riding were split up by half a point each. Colt Gordon was 87.5 points on Frontier Rodeo’s Maple Leaf to be your champion and win over $4,000. Ryder Wright finished second and Allen Boore was third.

Two of the PRCA’s top tie-down ropers split the championship in Elko with a set of 8.3’s. John Douch and Shane Hanchey both have their sights set on Las Vegas and a win at the Silver State Stampede will help get them there.

Terri Wood Gates is your barrel racing champion by almost four tenths of a second. Her 17.01 second run is first while Macee McAllister’s 17.39 is second and Italy Sheehan’s 17.45 was fast enough to finish third.

Creek Young was just crowned the Reno Rodeo Champion and he adds the Silver State Stampede to his list as well. He matched up with Frontier Rodeo’s to go a whopping 92 points and cash in almost $5,000. Another high score came from JR Stratford when he went 90.5 to be second.
