Spencer Wright lived the majority of the 2021 season on the bubble, and thanks to a few timely wins, he is headed to his fourth career NFR. Spencer earned $74,061.39 on the season, just $88.93 ahead of K’s Thomson.

Wright’s first big weekend of the season came in Kissimmee, Florida at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. Wright place in all four rounds, and capped the rodeo with an 86 point ride on Onion Ring in the finals, which would put him in second place. Wright won $10,609 at the rodeo.

He would follow that up with the biggest single check of the season at the Red Bluff Round-Up. Spencer went 88 points to take the rodeo and earn $6,937 in one go.

Spencer had a good start at the Reno Rodeo with an 87.5 point ride but was unable to do anything in the following two rounds at the rodeo. The 87.5 point ride earned Spencer $4,100.

SPENCER WRIGHT, 87.5 POINTS, RENO RODEO

Wright’s best ride of the season came at the Ute Stampede where he went 88.5 points on Spotted Blues and won $3,094.

July proved to be a big month for Spencer as he would place second at the Eagle County Fair & Rodeo and follow that up with a win at the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo.

In total, Wright won more than $18,000 in the month of July and pushed himself squarely into the mix for an NFR appearance.

As hot as Wright was in July, he was equally as cold in the month of August. In total, he placed in just 8 of 21 go-rounds and had just two top-three finishes. Spencer won just $5,355 in the month and quickly fell down the standings and back onto the bubble.

Wright’s NFR hopes would fall on the final ride of his season, where he went 81 points at the Sheriff’s PRCA Rodeo and won $2,092. Wright was able to hold off K’s Thomson who finished in second place at the rodeo. Had K’s finished a spot higher, or Spencer finish a spot lower, the two would have switched spots in the standings, and K’s would be heading to his first career NFR.
