St. Paul Rodeo: Preview, Format & How to Watch

St. Paul Rodeo 2024

The St. Paul Rodeo begins July 2 and will feature a purse of over $300,000. A year ago winners won between $6,000 and $12,000 for taking home the title. Here is a look at what you can expect from the action out of Oregon.

Format

In Roughstock events all athletes will have one shot to post the highest score and that athlete will be crowned Champion. Barrel Racing, like the Roughstock events, will be a one header with the fastest single run being crowned Champion. In Timed Events, all athletes will compete twice with the average winner being crowned Champion.

What to Watch For

Things start off hot on Tuesday night in St. Paul with 2023 World Champion Zeke Thurston looking to continue to climb in the PRCA World Standings. The Saddle Bronc Rider is currently No. 10 in the world and over $60,000 behind Damian Brennan in first. Brennan is scheduled to ride on Friday in Performance 5.

Last year’s Tie-Down Roping Champion, Shane Hanchey looks to keep his hot streak rolling and defend his title in St. Paul. He will compete in Friday’s Slack and his second run will come in Friday night’s live performance. Hanchey has made a big jump in the PRCA World Standings over the last couple of weeks and is now No. 14 in the standings.

World No. 1 in the Bareback Riding, Keenan Hayes is set to compete on the Fourth of July as he continues to defend his World Title. Hayes is holding onto a $10,000 lead over Leighton Berry in third and a $7,000 lead over Coop Cooke who is holding the No. 2 spot.
