Slade Wood is the 2021 Resistol Rookie of the Year in the steer roping.
The 19-year old, second generation steer roper is also sitting second in the race for the 2021 All-Around Rookie of the Year as he goes into the National Finals Steer Roping.
Wood is a steer roper, tie-down roper, and team roper. He has rodeoed since a young age, and he has a strong support system in his family. He learned from his father and his mother is always there ready to help him practice.
Wood graduated high school this past spring and hit the road hard this summer to cinch his No. 1 spot in the rookie race. He competed at the big rodeos this summer including Cheyenne Frontier Days and Pendleton Round-Up.
The rookie is heading to his first National Finals Steer Roping next week, and he has his work cut out for him being surrounded by the best of the best. He goes into the finals ranked No. 4 in the PRCA Steer Roping World Standings.
