Steer Wrestler JD Struxness Capitalizes at Rodeo Austin with New Format

JD Struxness is heating up as the Texas Swing rolls on and he gets a win in Austin.

JD Struxness did not make an appearance in Austin until the last set of steer wrestlers and he made it count. He threw the fastest run of the rodeo to win Round 1 but it was staying smooth that got him to the No. 1 spot in the Average.

“This rodeo is an average. We love it because you get accumulative times so you don’t have to have the best steer every time, you can work your way into it and then come with a chance here in the Finals to win,” Struxness said.

Struxness knew his steer was middle of the pack in the Final Round while his horse power was top notch, only adding to his confidence. After three runs Struxness had a time of 11.8 seconds on three head to claim his first Rodeo Austin Branding Iron.

Jacob Edler finished behind Struxness and Cade Staton rounds out the Top 3 at Rodeo Austin.
