Stetson Jorgensen is making his fifth trip to the NFR, riding a late-season surge at the Governor’s Cup to secure the No. 3 spot. The 31-year-old steer wrestler wrapped up his regular season with $153,000 in earnings, trailing world leader Dalton Massey by $45,000 as they head to Las Vegas.
RodeoHouston, $16,500
Jorgensen picked up a little cash at each of the first two Texas Swing stops in Fort Worth and San Antonio, but really hit his stride with a strong showing at RodeoHouston. After three solid runs in Super Series 2, Jorgensen earned $3,500 and grabbed the fourth and final spot in the Semifinals, which he took advantage of.
In the First Semifinal, he was 4.0 seconds to win the round and another $3,000, as well as a spot in Championship Sunday.
In the Championship Round, Jorgensen posted a 5.0-second run to place second and advance to the Short Round. Despite stubbing his toe with a 15.2 there, it still paid him $10,000 of his $16,000+.
Red Bluff Round-Up, $7,716
Jorgensen kicked his spring off with a strong showing in Red Bluff. He posted three sub-five-second runs before a 5.3-second run in the Finals which would be good for a third place finish in the round, but more importantly, won Jorgensen the Average in Red Bluff with an aggregate time of 19.1 on four. He placed no worse than fifth in each round.
World’s Oldest Rodeo, $5,887
It was a lucrative two runs for Jorgensen at the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott. He placed second in the First Round and fourth in the Second Round on the way to winning the Average by 1.6 seconds.
Also over the Fourth of July, he won over $4,000 in Oakley City, Utah for a 3.6-second run that got him second at the rodeo.
North Dakota Roughrider Cup, $6,019
Jorgensen was part of a tie for fifth in Mandan, which does not usually pay more than $6,000, but this one did. He was 4 flat and there were a total of nine runs that were 4.2 seconds or faster.
Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup, $29,000
Jorgensen made a big move in the World Standings at the Governor’s Cup over the last weekend of the season. Jorgensen opened with times of 4.6 and 4.1 seconds in the first two rounds. In the Semifinals, he was 4.3 seconds which moved him to the Finals, where he posted a 4.0-second run to get the win.
