Steer Wrestler Ty Erickson Claims Long Awaited Calgary Stampede Bronze

Ty Erickson cinches his first career Calgary Stampede title.

Ty Erickson is now the No. 4 steer wrestler in the PRCA after battling back from an injury just to be at the Calgary Stampede. He is a World Champion and a $2 million cowboy and until Championship Sunday, the Calgary Stampede Bronze is one he had been waiting on.

“This is an awesome rodeo, you don’t to miss this one so I’m so proud to come here and to win it. I’m just so proud of my horse, he worked so great all week. It’s a lot of fun,” Erickson said.

Erickson was not going to let ankle surgery two months ago stop him from a shot at the Calgary Stampede and in the Final Four, horsepower and muscle memory got the job done. Erickson’s time of 4.0 cinched the title by seven tenths of a second.

“My horse worked great right there, he gave me a great go and honestly, I was just holding on,” he said.

Don Payne finished second, Tyler Pearson was third and Stetson Jorgensen broke out to be fourth.
